what's her Story?

Erin is a neurodiverse adult professional in the education and social work field, specializing in offering coaching and designing educational programs for neurodiverse children and their families.  Having received a diagnosis of Autism as an adult, Erin spent life feeling left-of-center and motivated to dedicate her entire being to a number of special interests.  In the context of that pursuing those interests, she learned her life lessons, having many adventures along the way - including living in Nicaragua for four years and becoming trilingual.

A survivor of bullying and other trauma, Erin is committed to resiliency work and fostering intrinsic  motivation (motivation that comes from within).  She has worked in the field of ABA, but aims to reform it by involving more first-person respondents in the research and development of methodologies, so that the practice itself truly supports the desires and needs of its Autistic beneficiaries.

Erin has always had a special interest in animals.  By the time she was 7, she had memorized the scientific names of all marsupials and frequented the local zoo's Australia exhibit, often joining in with tour guides to share her insight.  In middle school through her thirties, Erin found her niche in theater and persevered through a number of difficult experiences, using theater and photography as processing tools and teaching others to do the same.  Eventually, she realized that the power of theater to change the hearts and minds of people was essentially what attracted her.  So, she transitioned into the field of education, which is more all-emcompassing, earning her MEd in 2009.

Over the years, Erin has developed specializations in international education, nonformal education (education outside of schools), special education with a focus on Autism and other learning differences on the neurodiversity spectrum, and finally, Animal-Assisted Education (AAE) and Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT).

It's Not a Pipe Dream!

During the pandemic, Erin opened Pipe Dreams Capacity-Building Services (an advocacy and coaching service for families of neurodiverse children) and The Unwritten School, an Animal-Assisted Education homeschool program for kindergarteners and 3rd graders, who were not well-served by pandemic education in public and private schools.  Unwritten School is now closed, post-pandemic, but the work continues in the spirit of designing specialized educational and therapeutic experiences for your young people with neurodiversity markers.  While she still works as a behavior therapist 1:1 with children on the Autism Spectrum at Avanza Behavioral Solutions, implementing innovative and neurodiversity-affirming programming written by directors, Eilianie Alvelo , BCBA and Sarah Boudreau, BCBA, Erin has also launched Pipe Dreams Youth and Families Capacity-Building Services and Will and Wonder Groups.  Please check out the services we offer to learn more.
